Just Me

Hello everyone, my name is Denise, also known in the blogging world as  shortybear. I am 52 years young, and live in Chattanooga Tennessee, with my husband of almost 31 years, Eddie. Our wedding anniversary is right around the corner, on April 6th.We do not have any children, except for our fur baby, Coco.I tried for 16 years to get pregnant, but it was not meant to be, due to medical problems.  I have type 1 diabetes, really bad. It has caused many
problems for me, such as nerve damage to my eyes, hands, legs, feet, and stomach. I had a stroke in 2011, a heart attack , and triple bypass in 2014. I attempted suicide in 2015. As you can see, I do not hold anything back on my blog. Why should I? There is no reason to sugar coat things. Life is what it is, filled with ups, and downs. I love the Lord, and thank Him for daily being with me, and putting up with me. I am just me, being me!!

  1. Nice to meet you, Denise! We are about the same age (I turned 51 in February). Thank you for sharing so openly. I lost someone very close to me to suicide and this is a very sensitive topic. I'm so glad you are still part of this world!

  3. Honesty is a good thing. Sometimes acknowledging what is painful helps.

The depression from your health issues probably affected your mental health. Sister, we all have weak moments. Sometimes the stress of family politics and care giving get so bad that I have told myself if I can't take it. Put my dogs in the car and just leave. Otherwise, my despair would be too great.

I'm glad you are still here. I think all our lives have purpose. We just don't need to do the chick thing and overthink. Take care kid.

  4. Hi Denise. What a rare thing in our society to find an honest person. I truly love that you are transparent and truthful. Thanks for visiting my blog. You know then, that I'm a grandma and great grandma. We have a little Shih Tzu that we've had since she was 6 mo. Now she's an old lady like me...I'm 75, she 77 in human years and 12 in dog.
I love that you have been a survior of many things, and you Love the Lord, so do I.

I will save you as a favorite so I can visit often.

    Love and Hugs

  6. Love your honesty.

"...had a stroke in 2011, a heart attack , and triple bypass in 2014. I attempted suicide in 2015."

This reminded me of Robin Williams' passing just a few years ago. He'd had heart surgery several years before and I recall an interviewer asking him if he experienced depression afterward. Do you think there's a connection in these things? I hope you will tell your story and how you went on afterward.

    How are you doing now?

  11. Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. We all love comments, don't we? Your transparency is refreshing. To admit that you have chronic pain, diabetes, infertility, heart trauma, and attempted suicide and yet you love the Lord, is what I appreciate. I'm sorry you have experienced all that, but I'm sure you have experience God's love and mercy and nearness at various times. It's what has kept me afloat when I was in the deepest, darkest seas of depression. For some reason, April hits me hard every year, so I ask people to pray for me.

  12. You've had a rough road. I'm prediabetic and have cut my carbohydrate intake by about 75% and though it's tough, it's helped bring down my A1C. Your posts are so informative.

  18. Hello! Thanks for popping over to our blog! I think if we put a voice to things, we can help share awareness and support. I do that myself often with Canine Epilepsy (inspired by my now, as of December, furangel Gibson) and I have RA and Fibromyalgia, diagnosed just five years ago. I've been thinking about blogging about it... so I credit you for your strength, honesty, and straightforwardness. You stay strong, and welcome to the fold!

  19. This is such a scary story. And so are your blood sugars. You do have a pump, right? I'm rather brittle too, and I check my sugars up to 10 times a day, sometimes more. So far, I've survived without serious complications for 26 years with this illness. I hope you can somehow get yours under control. Take care my friend and thanks for coming by.
