B is for Blood Sugar

Blood Sugar-a type of sugar that is created, when the carbohydrate that one eats is broken down in the body. During digestion, glucose passes through the wall of the intestine, into the bloodstream, to the liver, and eventually into the general circulation. From there, glucose can then enter individual cells, or tissues throughout the body, to be used for fuel, and provide energy.
 I have to check my blood sugar four times a day, before each meal, and at bed time. My blood sugar level is always somewhere between 400-600, I am what is known as a brittle diabetic. I sometimes feel like a pin cushion, because I have to prick my fingers so much. The skin on my fingers dry out so badly, lotion, lotion, lotion!!

  2. It is no fun being a pin cushion. Praying for help for your condition. My husband is on blood thinners for clots in his lungs. I had to give him shots morning and night and he bruises so easily. Shots are done now we think, and only a pill. Regardless - God is good.

  5. Sometimes those finger pokes hurt something fierce! I am sorry that you have to go through it so many times a day. David does, too. I am praying for your sugar levels to come down to a healthy, safe level very soon. {{{Hugs}}}

  7. My niece also has to test her blood sugar four times daily. It's definitely not fun. Have your doctors ever discussed an insulin pump as a possibility. My daughter used one for years, and it helped so much. It sounds like you have brittle diabetes, so very had to control, and I know that you must often not feel good if your blood sugar is that high. Praying for better days for you!

  9. A very tedious but very important routine. My aunt (my mother's sister) is a diabetic and she does the same.

  12. Better a pin cushion than the alternative. Have you found a good lotion?

  13. My son had a friend growing up who was a type 1 diabetic; I remember him having to check his blood sugar all the time. I would imagine it is a "habit" now but one you don't like doing.
